The M3A1 Grease Gun – One of the Most Fun MG's I ever shot!

Back around 30 years ago & a hundred pounds or so. I was finishing up my enlistment with my National Guard Unit, (HHT 1/18th Cav).
So for my last Field Training Exercise with the Green Machine. Our unit had gone from its Armory at Ontario California up to Fort Irwin / NTC for qualifications.
Where I was lucky enough to shoot one of the Grease guns. From one of the Tank troops that came along with the TOC. (Which I worked out of.)
Anyways, It was easily one of the most fun weapons that Uncle sam allowed me to shoot. I can also probably say that I was one of the last troopers to have shot one on duty.
(I am pretty sure that soon after it was turned in & made in scrap metal. Which was a real shame in my mind!)
So here is what learned.
It is a very slow shooting machine gun. With a rate of fire around 400 rounds or less a minute.
It also threw brass all over the place and took forever  to police up the brass afterwards.
The sights were VERY elementary!
Now for the great news about it!
It was very accurate !
It never jammed even after firing altogether about a thousand rounds.
(I only got to fire one magazine & then other folks got a turn at it)
It was very light weight and very compact!
It was the most fun that I had that year with my clothes on!
Bottom line – If you get a chance to fire one. Do so as it is a great gun to shoot! That & who ever thought this MG up was a real genius!
PS My Dad carried one during the Korean War & he had a high opinion also about it.
